The Top 5% Method Creates Quantum Shifts in Your Career
I was too scared to even say out loud that I wanted to work at Google.
In 2006, I could barely imagine myself on the inside. The company felt unreachable—something for people smarter, more connected, more deserving than me. I told myself I wasn't "Google material." I told myself I didn't have the right background. I told myself a lot of things that kept me small.
But six years later, I walked through those doors. Not through luck. Not through someone else's connection. Through a specific, deliberate career design system I built—a system I've now refined and scaled to help over 15,000 professionals create their own breakthrough moments.
If you're feeling invisible in your role right now, scared to ask for what you actually want, or wondering if it's too late to make a real leap—this is for you.
The Problem With "Hoping" Your Career Works Out
Most professionals approach their careers the way they approach a road trip without a map: they know they want to get somewhere, but they're driving blind. They send out resumes hoping someone calls. They attend a networking event or two, hoping to meet someone useful. They ask for a raise, hoping their manager says yes.
Hope is not a strategy.
What I discovered during my journey from terrified junior professional to Managing Director at Fortune 100 companies is that career breakthroughs don't happen by accident. They happen when you design them systematically. When you replace hoping with a proven methodology that actually works.
That's why I built the VIVID system.
The VIVID framework is the architecture behind every major career shift I've seen over the past decade. It's the method that transformed a 28-year-old who couldn't even say "Google" out loud into someone who would eventually manage portfolios exceeding $1.2 billion. And more importantly, it's the system that's helped thousands of professionals like you create quantum shifts in their own careers—the kind of shifts that feel impossible until they're your new normal.
The VIVID System is part of the Top 5 Method®
How Quantum Shifts Actually Happen
A quantum shift is different from incremental progress.
It's a discontinuous jump.
It's going from "struggling to get noticed" to "promoted in six months." It's going from "exploring a career change" to "landed the role I actually wanted." It's moving from invisible to unstoppable.
Here's how the VIVID system makes that possible:
1. Visualize Your Vivid Vision
Before anything else, you need clarity. Not vague wishes. Not someday dreams. A vivid, crystalline vision of what you're actually building toward.
When I visualized my Google goal, I didn't just think "I want to work there." I got specific. I imagined the exact type of role. I saw myself in a specific function (partnerships and business development). I thought about the culture I wanted to be part of, the day-to-day activities that would energize me, and the person I would need to become to make that leap.
Here's the critical part: I made it feel real. I asked myself the questions that matter: How does it feel to walk into this role? Do I feel aligned with this vision or am I chasing someone else's dream? That distinction changes everything. A vivid vision isn't just about the title or the salary. It's about the feeling—the identity shift, the impact you'll have, the person you'll become.
Then I translated that vision into a SMART goal. This takes your vivid picture and gives it structure. Specific timeframe. Measurable milestones. Achievable through intentional action. Relevant to your values. Time-bound so it's not floating in some indefinite future.
Your vision without structure is a daydream. Your vision with structure becomes inevitable.
2. Identify Your Tribe: Build Your Mini-Mastermind or Join the Top 5 Method® Accelerator which is a Mastermind
One of the biggest secrets I learned at Google and carried through LinkedIn is this: you don't climb mountains alone.
The second step in the VIVID system is identifying and surrounding yourself with key players—a curated mini-mastermind of people who are chasing similarly ambitious career goals. I'm not talking about collecting LinkedIn connections. I'm talking about a deliberate community of people who understand what you're building toward and will push you to get there.
This tribe serves multiple purposes. First, they provide accountability. When you're trying to create a quantum shift, the voices in your head will tell you to play small, to stay comfortable, to stop being weird about ambition. A weekly meeting with your tribe drowns out those voices. They're building something too. They know what you're up against. They'll call you on your excuses because they're making their own excuses and you're helping each other see through them.
Second, they provide knowledge transfer. The fastest way to reach a destination is to learn from people who've already traveled that road. Your mini-mastermind isn't a one-way mentorship. It's mutual elevation. Someone in your group might know the person who knows the person. Someone might have navigated a similar industry pivot. Someone might have mastered the exact communication skill you're trying to build.
The structure matters too. A tribe that meets occasionally is just a nice idea. A tribe that commits to weekly meetings becomes a force. Weekly accountability is the difference between vision and execution.
3. Validate Your Vision: Test Before You Leap
Here's where most people fail: they build an entire fantasy career in their head, then get to the "real thing" and realize it wasn't what they wanted.
Validation is about reality-testing your vivid vision before you've bet your entire career on it. It's about creating openings—strategic conversations, volunteer opportunities, informational interviews, sample projects—that let you actually experience what this career path feels like from the inside.
When I was targeting Google, I didn't just apply blind. I identified communities, platforms, groups, and events where Google employees and the people they hired were having conversations. I found and attended industry meetups focused on tech partnerships. I followed internal communities. I listened to what people actually talked about day-to-day. I was validating: Is this really my vision, or have I romanticized it?
Validation also means identifying the key gatekeepers, decision-makers, and connectors in your target space. Not to manipulate them, but to have authentic conversations with them. To learn from them. To let them learn about you. These relationships become the open doors that make your quantum shift possible.
The people you meet during validation often become the architects of your opportunity. They see your genuine interest. They see you doing the work. And when the right opportunity emerges, they think of you.
4. Ignite Inspired Action: From Vision to Momentum
By this point, you have a vivid vision. You have your accountability tribe. You've validated that your dream is real and achievable. Now comes the part that actually moves you forward: inspired action.
Inspired action is different from busy-ness. It's not about doing more. It's about doing the critical things—the conversations, the projects, the moves that genuinely accelerate you toward your vision.
This is where weekly milestones become your game plan. You and your mini-mastermind identify what matters most. What conversations need to happen? What skills need to be built? What relationships need to deepen? What visible work needs to be done? Then you break it into weekly commitments that you report back on.
The magic happens in the weekly debrief. You're not just pushing through tasks. You're having critical conversations with people who understand the landscape. You're problem-solving in real time. You're adjusting your approach based on what's actually working versus what looked good in theory.
Over 15,000 Google employees used versions of this system to accelerate their careers. Participants in my Career Accelerator program have seen promotions with compensation jumps up to 28%, salary increases averaging $84,000 or more, and career transitions they thought were impossible. That's not magic. That's what happens when vision meets accountability, validation, and inspired action.
5. Deliver and Deploy: Build the System, Then Scale It
The final piece of VIVID is about execution with continuous improvement.
You deliver on your vision through the work you've been building toward. But here's what separates people who hit their goals from people who create lasting impact: they debrief on the why. When something doesn't work the way you expected, you don't just move on. You ask: Why did this break? What assumption was wrong? What did I learn?
Then you improve the system. You keep what's working. You adjust what isn't. You look for the leverage points—the places where a small shift creates outsized results. You scale what you've learned.
This is how a single breakthrough becomes a pattern of breakthroughs. How one promotion becomes a string of opportunities. How a career shift becomes a trajectory.
Your Quantum Shift Is Waiting
I think about that scared 28-year-old who couldn't even say "Google" out loud, and I want to tell her what I'm telling you now: the quantum shift you're looking for isn't some mysterious thing that happens to other people. It's the result of a system.
It's replacing hope with design. It's replacing isolation with accountability. It's replacing fantasy with validation. It's replacing procrastination with inspired action. It's replacing one-time wins with sustainable systems.
If you're feeling invisible in your role right now, scared to ask for what you want, or wondering if it's too late—I built my entire Career Accelerator around people like you. Around the redesign. Around the quantum shift.
The VIVID system works because it takes the abstract (your dreams) and makes it concrete (your weekly milestones). It takes the lonely journey and adds community. It takes the risk of the unknown and replaces it with validation and evidence.
Your next chapter isn't a terrifying leap into the unknown. It's a thoughtfully constructed journey, designed for sustainable growth and profound fulfillment. And it starts the moment you decide to make your vision vivid enough to pursue.
